Spring/Summer 2010 Programme:
The 10 Commandments: A Spotlight on Sustainability
Introduction:
Long before our liberal capitalism/market economy with it's underlying ideologies emerged, God in his caring wisdom gave the world his 10 Commandments. These Commandments address our attitudes and actions towards our maker/sustainer; towards each other; towards material possessions.
Judging from recent election debates and reading party manifestos, our political leaders are in agreement that acheiving a sustainable society is, party dogma aside, 'the' great challenge facing this generation. Many man-made schemes are proposed to meet this challenge but we all know that we are starting very much 'from behind' in both economic and social wellbeing terms. It is our conviction that the 10 Commandments and their related amplification in the teaching of Jesus should shine some much needed 'wisdom light' on the way ahead ... so let's get discussing!
